Working between the frets otherwise known as learning to play with correct fingering can be a complex task. The key to good guitar playing begins with fingering technique and is complimented by the opposing hand having the right strumming or fingerpicking style to go with your fingering. Until your fingers are able to maneuver the fretboard fairly well, it is really going to take some time to make anything that sounds like music.

For the most part beginners should concentrate on learning to do two things on the fretboard, learn to play chords and learn to play scales. Chording will stretch out the fingers and widen the area that they are able to cover effectively. Scales will loosen the fingers and build dexterity or speed with them. The combination of these two things will eventually lead to being able to play with some fluidity. Also you will build the all essential calluses on your fingertips while you are learning.

By using this tips on finger play while still working between the frets.. It will take practice and more practice to get a real hold of the guitar, but it will be worth it when you are truly a guitar player.

Learning the importance of hand position and the importance of posture while learning and playing guitar can help playing be more comfortable and more enjoyable.
There are 4 types of proper hand positions for the guitar. The thumb over the neck where the part of the hand between the first finger and thumb lays on the back, the thumb setting gently on the back of the neck, the thumb on the back of the neck and pointed toward the head and parallel with the neck and lastly the hand wrapped tightly around the neck so the palm is on the neck.Get more information here. http://lifehacker.com/5833519/test-your-back-and-neck-posture-against-a-wall Which one is best for you will depend on personal style and what type of music you will be playing.
To find the perfect posture while playing guitar you should first position the guitar so it is comfortable to reach with your hands so that you do not need to slouch over. If you find yourself slouching, tighten the strap so you can better reach the guitar. You should keep your back straight no matter if you are standing or sitting while playing the guitar. If you are standing still, keep you feet shoulder width apart.
Maintaining proper posture and hand position will help you to be more comfortable while you play guitar and help you to avoid aches and pains later on.

There are a lot of reasons to love electric guitars but the one we’re all focused on is because they’re been played by such greats. We’ve put together a list of our favorite electric guitars and their owners and if you’ve got the cash you should get on your WildBlue internet and try to find one up for auction. Good luck with that!
Hendrix: The Godfather of electric guitar, Jimi Hendrix played a Fender 60s Reverse Headstock Stratocaster. It made the sweetest sounds at the hands of this guitar legend but odds are no one else can ever make it sound quite so smooth again
Eric Clapton: Yup, Clapton’s cool enough that Stratocaster made him his very own guitar and what he loves to play is dubbed the Eric Clapton Signature Strat. It’s got black and white styling and is as sleek as the “Layla” artist himself.
Carlos Santana: He’s got arguably some of the best guitar skills on the planet and he plays with a relatively low-tech guitar – imagine that. The Gibson SG is his weapon of choice and boy can he make it sing.

Stevie Ray Vaughan absolutely must be considered as one of the greatest and hottest guitar players ever to pick up the instrument. Although his chosen genre (blues) could be considered narrow, SRV exhibited amazingly superb technical proficiency. His music had a dark and powerful feel–one that the blues world hadn’t experienced in a long while.

Listen to an SRV tune and you might think that two guitar players have been recorded. Only Stevie was there, however, and he was so fast and accurate that he could play two parts at once. Many early fans were literally stopped in their tracks when the heard SRV’s first album.

Early in his career, Stevie moved from Dallas, Texas to Austin where he quickly became known as the hottest blues player in Texas. He only had the time to record three albums before he was killed in a helicopter crash in Wisconsin. More work was uncovered after his death, but none surpassed the first three discs.

SRV was what blues lovers call “the real thing.” His playing was thoughtful, powerful and authentic. SRV had great respect for the music he played and actually was personally responsible for the blues revival that occurred in the mid 1980s.

Guitar riffs are the backbone of any legendary rock song. They are the the main melodic line that people remember, and they can range from a simple chord progression, to a lead. This article is opinion based, and even choosing a favorite riff as a guitarist isn’t something that I can easily do. There are too many great and catchy songs, but there can be only one.

The first one, and easiest to play that comes to mind is Deep Purple’s Smoke on The Water. This is one that anyone can play, and its usually the first thing everyone learns. I even heard an Ocarina salesmen playing at a renaissance festive, but easy to play doesn’t equal my favorite.

This will be a bit surprising, and is the product of Eddy Van Halen and Micahel Jackson, with beat it. A great riff has to stick into your memory, but it also has to encompass the entirety of a song, and beat it does this very well. You can strip away the drums and Michael Jackson, and that riff still caries everything musical within it. The combination of rock’n roll, and two of the most prolific artists ever, makes this great.

While many men gain the spotlight, a lot of women have shredded their way into it. This article is going to focus on the best technical and most creative of these players. This is not a simple decision. It’s easy to go with the popular names like Nacy Wilson, or The Great Kat (Who played really sloppy music, and screamed at everyone how she was the greatest of all time.)

The obvious popular choice right now is Orianthi. Her track with Steve Vai was awesome, she was booked on Michael Jackson’s last tour, and she’s the only one who is current. Her vibrato, and phrasing are amazing, but on a technical level she has to fall short to Stream Of Passion’s guitarist Lori Linstruth, who’s phrasing, economy and sweep picking mastery, places her out of the crowd.

Jennifer Batten is the Jimi Hendrix of all female rock guitarists, and gets the win. She is a legend, and has played with so many iconic musicians. She has all the technical strengths, with a creative edge. She is the quintessential female guitar shredder. Some honorable mentions go to Eita from the Jrock band Seven Seas, and Kaki King, who is insanely creative.
