Who was the Hottest Axe Man Ever

Stevie Ray Vaughan absolutely must be considered as one of the greatest and hottest guitar players ever to pick up the instrument. Although his chosen genre (blues) could be considered narrow, SRV exhibited amazingly superb technical proficiency. His music had a dark and powerful feel–one that the blues world hadn’t experienced in a long while.

Listen to an SRV tune and you might think that two guitar players have been recorded. Only Stevie was there, however, and he was so fast and accurate that he could play two parts at once. Many early fans were literally stopped in their tracks when the heard SRV’s first album.

Early in his career, Stevie moved from Dallas, Texas to Austin where he quickly became known as the hottest blues player in Texas. He only had the time to record three albums before he was killed in a helicopter crash in Wisconsin. More work was uncovered after his death, but none surpassed the first three discs.

SRV was what blues lovers call “the real thing.” His playing was thoughtful, powerful and authentic. SRV had great respect for the music he played and actually was personally responsible for the blues revival that occurred in the mid 1980s.
